Max McRae will defend his leadership in the Junior ERC in the Rally Islas Canarias

Colin McRae's nephew will compete in the Gran Canaria event for the first time. His grandfather Jimmy (1986 and 1992) and his father Alister (1993) did it before. With near to fifteen teams entered in the Junior ERC, only the Czech Daniel Polásek knows about the Rally Islas Canarias after having competed in 2022.

The Rally Islas Canarias once again has the Junior ERC on its official entry list. This window of the competition aimed at the youngest brings together a total of 14 teams representing no less than ten nationalities.

With his victory in Hungary a few days ago, Max McRae is the leader of this exciting section, a category of young people who will arrive in Gran Canaria with the aim of putting on an important show.

The McRae surname is not new in the history of this rally. Max's grandfather, Jimmy, competed in 1986 with an MG Metro 6R4 with which he was third behind Carlos Sainz and Antonio Zanini, to repeat in 1992 with a Ford Sierra Cosworth, the year in which he finished seventh. His father Alister did it a year later, finishing on the Group N podium with another Ford Sierra. Therefore, Max is the nephew of Colin McRae, the world champion of the 1995 season.

The British will face 13 other teams, of which only one knows the rally: Daniel Polásek. The Czech competed, and finished it, in the 2022 edition, so he can leave with a slight but important advantage.

The Swede Mille Johansson, as well as the Irish Aoife Raftery, will try to catch up with Max McRae in the Junior ERC provisional overall. In any case, we will have to see the performance on tarmac of the young Italians Davide Pesavento, Geronimo Nerobutto and Mattia Zanin.

Jack Brennan, Liam Müller, Timo Schulz, Calle Carlberg, Patrick Herczig, Karl-Markus Sei and Aleksandar Tomov, with Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa Rally4 models, complete this category in which, many of them, have not reached the age of 20 year old.
