Remarkable start of the Rally Islas Canarias in its 46th edition. The Gran Canaria team Luis Monzón and José Carlos Déniz (Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo) finished the first four stages leading the overall clasification of the FIA European Rally Championship with 8.9’’ leeway over Yoann Bonato-Benjamin Boulloud (Citroën C3 Rally2), who had clearly been their closest rivals.
The Canarian team won two of the three stages of the morning without any problems with their Skoda, settling themselves ahead of the French champions in the classification and of Efrén Llarena-Sara Fernández (Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo), who achieved the best time in the first stage of the day – Valsequillo – and hold the third position in the provisional classification at 13,8’’. The second stage – Santa Lucía – had to be neutralized due to the accident with no consequences of Simon Wagner-Gerald Winter, first leaders of the race, whose car remained blocking the way of the other cars.
Their team mates, the Italians Simone Campedelli-Tania Canton (Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo), are just a few tenths of a second behind Llarena-Fernández in the provisional classification, just as Nil Solans-Marc Martí (Volkswagen Polo GTI R5), who are fifth in the provisional classification, with the Canarian team Enrique Cruz-Yeray Mujica holding the sixth position at 23.6’’ from the leading and rival team for the title of the Regional Rally Championship.
