Marczyk-Gospodarczyk, the fastest team in the qualifying stage of the 45th Rally Islas Canarias

The Polish team has made the best time in the stage drawn up on the road Los Picos de Telde and will therefore be the first to choose starting position for the first leg on Friday. Next will be Alexey Lukyanuk-Alexey Arnautov, Surhayén Pernía-Alba Sánchez. The position selection will take place from 5.15 pm in the Gran Canaria Arena as an event open to the public, followed by the press conference, the autograph session and the starting ceremony.

There is already a reference of who will be setting the pace this 45th edition of the Rally Islas Canarias. Miko Marczyk and Szymon Gospodarczyk, with the Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo, made the best time in the qualifying stage held in the municipality of Telde today at noon.

In this 2.94 kilometer long itinerary, the Polish team which competes for the sub-championship of the FIA European Rally Championship with the Spanish team Efrén Llarena and Sara Fernández, that took the fourth place in this stage, scored a time of 1:21.952. The qualifying stage gives the fastest team the opportunity to choose their starting position with regard to the first leg, which will be starting tomorrow from 9.30 am. This selection will take place in the Gran Canaria Arena from 5.15 pm.

Next to choose their starting position as the second fastest team in the qualifying stage will be the three times Rally Islas Canarias champions and two times champions of the ERC Alexey Arnautov (Citroën C3 Rally2), followed by Surhayén Pernía-Alba Sánchez (Hyundai i20 R5) and, more than a second behind, Efrén Llarena-Sara Fernández (Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo) and Jan Solans-Rodrigo Sanjuán (Citroën C3 Rally2). Among the Canarian teams, Yeray Lemes and Rogelio Peñate (Hyundai i20 N Rally2) were the best qualified, having reached the 11th best time ahead of precisely Enrique Cruz-Yeray Mujica (Ford Fiesta Rally2).

After the training sessions and the ranking, the stage in Telde held the shakedown from 4.15 pm for the no priority teams willing to enter it.

As of this moment and until the first of the two legs and their nine special stages are held, the action of the 45th Rally Islas Canarias will be mainly taking place indoors in the Gran Canaria Arena, which after the selection of the starting positions of the fifteen fastest priority teams in the qualifying stage will be hosting the official press conference (5.45 pm) – also at the starting line – after which the fans will be able to grab autographs from the teams (from 6 to 7 pm).

All of this as a preparation for the starting ceremony, which will again be hosted in the Gran Canaria indoors Arena and will begin at 8.30 pm. The organisation has been working for days to set up a show well worth seeing. Todo Sport has enabled a COVID-19 register in order to attend not only this event but the awards ceremony and the service park inside the Estadio de Gran Canaria.
