The changes that have taken place both in the calendar of the FIA European Rally Championship and in the Spanish Rally Championship have led its organizer to request on November 26, 27 and 28. This date, like that of all the events that have had to change its date on the calendar, has yet to be ratified by the Delegate Commission of the RFEdeA and by the FIA World Council.

The FIA European Rally Championship 2020 will be decided a week before of schedule. Rally Islas Canarias has advanced its celebration by seven days and, in this way, will be held between November 26 and 28.

Initially scheduled between May 7 and 9, the crisis and the consequent state of alarm forced the Organizing Committee to postpone its celebration. Initially, in agreement with Eurosport Events, promoter of the ERC, and the Real Federación Española de Automovilismo, it was going to be held between December 3 and 5, but the changes that have taken place both in the continental championship and in the national have advised to carry out this last readjustment.

This new location allows the event from Gran Canaria to take place three weeks after the Rally of Hungary and two weeks before the end of the season of the Spanish Rally Championship that will take place in Madrid. The Delegated Commission of the RFEdeA that will meet on June 15 and the FIA World Council, which will do the same four days later, must approve this change that benefits the teams of both competitions.

“Rally Islas Canarias is not only one of the highlights of the FIA ERC season, it’s also a key component of the Spanish championship,” explained Jean-Baptiste Ley, the ERC Coordinator. “With Spanish federation RFEdeA a strong partner of the ERC, it was important we could agree on a date that worked for all parties. Besides, we are all in the same boat due to COVID-19 so it’s important we all help each other. I am therefore very pleased we have found a solution and look forward to working towards the 44th running of Rally Islas Canarias in November.”

“The situation we are going through has meant that both Eurosport Events and the RFEdeA have had to make great efforts to make their championships viable. This last change of date has been made precisely so that the Canary Islands are in a position as comfortable as possible for the teams of both competitions. A week before or after, the organization continues working to make this year's edition as bright as possible and help to end the season with the best taste in the mouth after a year as tough as this 2020”, said Germán Morales, President of the Organizing Committee of the Rally Islas Canarias.
