Spectacular start of the Rally Islas Canarias in the Gran Canaria Arena

On it's reunion with the most international sports event in the Canary Islands, the fans once again took the leading role in the starting ceremony, which was brilliantly held in this new venue. One by one, all participants of this edition went up the starting ramp before the first leg, which begins tomorrow at 9.30 am. Previously, Miko Marczyk – the fastest driver in the qualifying stage – chose to start at the second position.

The Rally Isla de Gran Canaria in its 45th edition could not ask for a better start. Thousands of fans gave a more than warm welcome to each and all of the participants, who as of tomorrow will be facing the first special stages. The Gran Canaria Arena could not be a better setting for the reunion of the most important rally in the Canary Islands either, with one of the key elements throughout its history - the public.

From the Fiat 127 Sport number 77 of Santiago Pérez and Benito Sacramento from Tenerife up to the Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo number one of Miko Marczyk-Szymon Gospodarczyk, the fans cheered all teams on, to which authorities as well as sponsors gave the starting flag to the rhythm of Ian Montgomery, who once again acted as master of ceremonies.

The motors will be starting up early in the morning on Friday, when the teams head off to the stages of the first section: ‘Valsequillo’ (11.91 km), ‘San Mateo-DISA’ (13.78 km), ‘Tejeda’ (13.68 km) and ‘Santa Lucía’ (13.07 km). This very same itinerary will be repeated in the section of the afternoon and again, for the 5th time in a row throughout the history of the Rally, the day will end with the super special stage ‘Las Palmas de Gran Canaria-DISA’ with scarcely 1.53 kilometres.

The first to face these stages will be the French team Yoann Bonato-Benhamin Boulloud (Citroën C3 Rally2), which took the 7th place this morning, after the fastest team in the qualifying stage – Miko Marczyk-Szymon Gospodarczyk (Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo) – had chosen to start just behind in second position. Their competitors for the ERC absolute sub-championship, Efrén Llarena-Sara Fernández (Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo) will come next followed by Jan Solans-Rodrigo Sanjuán (Citroën C3 Rally2), Simone Campedelli-Tania Canton (Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo), Nil Solans-Marc Martí (Hyundai i20 R5), Iván Ares-David Vázquez (Hyundai i20 R5) and Yeray Lemes-Rogelio Peñate (Hyundai i20 N Rally2).
